by kara f. on this club surpassed all my expectations for a saturday night. i was blown away by the amazing decor, and the extremely attractive staff. everyone was beautiful!! the door staff was very friendly and i enjoyed myself thoroughly. the bartenders made the drinks perfectly! me and my friends randomly decided to buy a bottle midway through the night and the waitresses were nothing but sweet and very fast with the service! it is so accommodating! some of our friends met us there and were walked in by the door guy with no problem.. everything went so perfectly and smoothly!! needless to say i will absolutely be visiting touch again in the very near future. thank you so much to the amazing staff!
by Lisa J. on I love this spot! This was the first time I had Ethiopian food and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. If you haven't tried Ethiopian food its a great place to check out. Since its small, it has a mellow vibe and the Jazz is right up in your face. It was open mic night and all of the musicians were really top notch. There was this cool nutty professor guy in the corner booth by himself with piles and piles of sheet music that he seemed to be working on. He got up towards the end and sang his heart out! Another random woman got up and did the same. All the music was great except for the homeless guy who managed get on the mic towards the end. He looked somewhat normal but once he opened his mouth the band started getting ready to shut it down. All in all a great night!
by Nickolas Alrich on This was my first visit to Pure at Pearl, the self-proclaimed "Boston's Largest Lesbian NightClub". I confess, I haven't fully grasped the "blank at blank" rotating lesbian scene here in Boston, but I try to keep up. Anyway, my feelings about this place can basically be summarized by a mildly entertained ...meh... So: - the alcohol selection was disappointing (Bud Lite was embarrassingly popular with the clientle). - the DJ didn't transition well between songs. This caused the inebriated crowd to jerk around awkwardly until they figured out the new beat (entertaining to watch). - the ladies were kind of bland, mostly moderate and moderate/butch. No flashy femmes, no adventurous andros, no brazen bois. - there were two scantily-clad women, who I can only assume were a tacky throwback to "go-gos", dancing on little platforms on each side of the dance floor. I'm not sure what their purpose was, the crowd mostly ignored them, the they themselves seemed to feel out-of-place. The place gets a star for at least attempting to provide a well-deserved respite to Boston's overwhelmingly hetero nightlife (I love all you straight folk, I really do, but sometimes a girl wants to be surrounded by girls who like girls). Another star for the ladies themselves. These chicas danced as if no one was watching, seemed to be having fun, and appeared unconcerned by the fact that the lights were too bright. And a third star for the hell of it!
