When I go out this seems to be the default standard place to go. There is fun to be had at this place. A few drinks then to the dance floor, yeah good times. The cover sucks and the drinks are pricey. This is also where my favorite bar tender, Angel, works.

KoKo's is a place of which I never would've guessed I'd become such a fan. It's totally un-presumptuous and, in my opinion, located in one of the most random locations in the city. It's not quite Nob Hill/Polk St., not quite the Tenderloin (like Bourbon & Branch), but sort of movie theatre-ish/Tommy's Joint area. And yet, regardless, I think I'm starting to understand its appeal, and why so many of my friends (ok, just two) have hosted their birthday drinks and going-away drinks here. Tonight we had a funtastically fabulous birthday party here for one of our great friends. Since I didn't know about KoKo's delicious mixed drinks until recently (shout out to tinna h.), I decided to try the Pink Lemonade (b/c obvi I'm a girl who likes pink) ;) and it was pretty & tart - made with real, fresh, squeezed lemon juice. Loved it. Also, on every occasion that I've come here, I've loved the music. KoKo's has a fun DJ with a variety of mixes - from the Panjabi MC/Jay Z Remix of "Beware" mixed alongside Persian -TO- The Beastie Boys "Jimmy James" -TO- FatBoySlim's: Live on Brighton Beach's re-mix of The Black & White Brother's "Put Your Hands Up" and/or Ultra All-Stars' "Just Move" dropped alongside some other world beat, it was awesome. Mad points for a hip bar in an unexpected location.

First word come to my mind after going here last night for a girls' night out is "LAME!!!" So, my girls & I decided to check this place out cuz we were a bit tired of the Hollywood clubbing scene & like Silver Lake neighborhood. Plus, there were a few high ratings for this place from fellow rateclubsers. We showed up around 10 p.m., found street parking, & got in for free, which was great. There were two rooms & both rooms have its own bar. The place was a bit dead. My guess is because we were still early. However, the crowd started to pour in 30 min after we came. The first thing I noticed from the crowd is that my girls & I seemed to be a bit out of place. There were no diversity or whatsoever. We were the minority there last night. I think we were the only Asian girls there... hahaha. I don't know who was DJ'ing the night some of the rateclubsers went to but the DJ from last night SUCKED!!! He only played like 2 good songs & the rest were something that I don't think I've heard before. My girls & I are the type of girls who can dance pretty much to anything & we like all kind of music. Maybe he just didn't know how to work the DJ table or something. The drinks were terrible!!! They weren't even strong like someone here had said. I like my drink strong & the drink I had last night was pretty much watered down. My girls didn't like their drinks either. Oh yea, why do you have to have a minimum of $20 worth of order for you to pay w/ a credit card? What the hell?!?! I've never heard of that. All the clubs I've been to before always take card & they don't care how much your order need to be. Anyway, this place is nothing like I'd imagined. My girls & I were so bored w/in the hour we were @ the place. We ended up leaving the place & went to Menage in Old Town Pasadena & had a wonderful time there. I also agree w/ some of the reviews here that the crowd were a bit ghetto. I doubt that I will ever go back to this place again. I gave it a try & didn't like it @ all. I gave this place only 2 stars cuz of the free entrance & easy street parking... haha
