Despite the fact that my Asian friends are constantly adopting me into their various ethnic groups, I've been given a Korean name ("Kee Sha Kim") and have 2 Korean language classes under my belt, I still have yet to master Korean karaoke speak -- or discounts on hair weaves for that matter.  I don't think  "Thank you, Happy Birthday.  May I have some thin-sliced brisket and Soju? Merry Christmas!" would get me a discount on a pack of #2.  So, when I want to karaoke and I'm minus a designated Korean negotiator, I like going to Feel. Feel is the type of place you bring your friend from out of town when you want to show them how cultured you are and how deep your pockets go.  When, in actuality, you don't need to know how to speak Korean and while Feel is sleek and upscale-looking for a norebong joint, it's actually reasonably priced (you can get away with a room for 10 people, a few bottles of Hite and soju for $25/hr). Like other norebongs, they have a city library's worth of Korean songs and a personal bookshelf worth of English songs.  But, they're likely to have many of  the favorites. So, not to worry - your slightly skanky friend who for some reason always starts to undress when Britney Spears songs are played - can screech out "Womanizer".   Your friend who only seemed to listen to hip-hop yet secretly wanted to be Bon Jovi when he was 10 can sing his heart out to "You Give Love a Bad Name" and your annoying cute couple friends can duet to "A Whole New World" while you yak in the corner, fervently pressing the call button so they'll bring you more soju in between dry heaves.   It's a good time had by all.

Night Two of the NYC Birthday Weekend and we didn't have any solid plans. All we knew is that we wanted to eat well, hear good music and didn't want to go to a nightclub. I had been to the Blue Note in '99 and had a good time and figured it would probably be a good time again. We went to their website and the two early shows were sold out, however, there were tix available for the 12:30am show featuring saxophonist Seamus Blake. Never heard of him but figured if he was at the Blue Note he must be good. The real purpose of this review is not to review the venue because what more can be said, but to review Seamus Blake. This badass white boy is now forever etched in my dome! It seemed as if he literally called a few guys at the last minute to see if they could come down and play because maybe he was asked to perform at the last minute (just speculating). This was by no means a rehearsed performance but it was the BEST jazz performance I've seen since I saw Joshua Redman's Trio (Christian McBride and Brian Blade) in Seattle back in '97. I can't remember the other musicians' names but I do remember the Seamus Blake Quartet had the whole house rockin' with their funky, contemporary style of jazz.  He even had an auto-tune thing-a-majiggy! The coolest part to me was that we could see and hear them figuring out which pieces to perform, there were a couple of false starts and they were even crackin' on each other! Performances like these are once in a lifetime.   I loved it!!! I actually can say one thing about the food...we had the calamari and it was pretty darned good. :-)

Overcrowded, Overpriced drinks, over pretentious and OFF BEAT crowd. I have rhythm but when i danced here, i kept getting thrown off by the whole crowd apparently dancing to a completely different song!!! Oh and the DJ downstairs sucks ass. Couldn't mix to save his life. Would play Kanye one song and then Madonna the next.. wasn't feeling it. This place sucks. Why is it whenever I go to an "upscale", non ghetto club, no one can dance?
