I got in free. There's that. The rest was a blur. I say that because everything for the hour leading up to this was a blur. Everything after the first 20 minutes in here was a blur, too, except for some guy trying to pick a fight with me because I was dancing too close to him or something. Not with. Close to. I don't really remember anything else except for a faint memory of eating a sandwich on a bagel somewhere, then telling the story about when a friend of mine's mom crapped herself on a road trip to a bouncer at a club where said friend was trying to talk to said bouncer. Don't ever give me alcohol in quantity. Ever.

I have a bag the size of a paperback book that contains my wallet, phones, and today, an envelope with a lot of cash. While at the bar, the front desk guy asked if they could keep my bag behind the counter. I politely told him no. He said it's policy. I asked if they keep women's purses behind the counter, which are generally much larger than mine. He said no. I said that's sexist. He shrugged. This isn't the first time I've had this bag at the bar as my company has many unofficial events there. I'll make sure that ceases.

It's sad that I can't remember my first time at the Edison, or who I went there with.  In fact, there's very little I remember about that experience other than the feeling of walking down those stairs for the first time and descending into a dream. Since that first experience, I've become somewhat of a regular here.  The door man always greets me warmly, and though Jackie is now one of the cocktail waitress, she will always be the Green Fairy to me.  I remember going to the Edison to celebrate Obama being elected president, and I remember the awkwardness of a first date ending with the first glass of absinthe.  There have been countless visits over the past two years - birthdays, celebrations, happy hours...all have been great times. Once upon a time, the Edison only served one absinthe; now they serve a dozen.  If absinthe is something you've been wanting to try, the Edison is a great place to do it.  Just make sure not to say to the bartender, "This isn't REAL absinthe, like what I had in the Czech Republic." (What you had in the Czech Republic wasn't real absinthe - it was a 160 proof tourist trap). If absinthe isn't really your thing, they have excellent cocktails of all types here.  I would recommend sitting at the bar when you can; the bartenders are excellent company (when it's not super crowded), and the view is the best in the house. As for food, the Edison's menu has really improved over time.  They currently have a five for $5 happy hour menu that has some wonderful selections on it.  Their tesla fries get increasingly spicy as you work your way down the cone shaped basket.  The sliders are very tender and well seasoned, even if they're cooked medium.  They also have very good calamari, chicken wings, a veggie sandwich, and some chicken teriyaki wings on the 5 for $5.  In addition, they have a great hot dog deal where you get a hot dog, onion rings and a beer for $10.  The onion rings may have been the best I've ever had. I can go on and on about why the Edison is my second home here in Los Angeles...I didn't even mention the $0.35 martinis or their radio room.  But needless to say, I'm a huge fan; and considering the line to get in on a Friday night, clearly I'm not the only one.
