by dreamer k. on This is by far my favorite place to go dancing in the city. I have taken groups of international students here, and they just love it. I bring my straight guy friends here and they get a kick out of it. I bring my gay guy friends here and they feel at home. I bring my girlfriends here, they dance on the stage. I bring my boyfriend here....he even dances after he's had a few drinks. ; ) Best to leave any homophobia at the door (actually, just get rid of it, period), because that 6'2'' girl you're dancing next to is probably a guy in drag, and she's in her own happy bubble. : ) The seasonal theme nights are a lot of fun (valentine's day bootie, christmas bootie, halloween bootie) and if you get there early it is not only cheaper but you may get a free CD of mash up music. At midnight there's a show on the stage and Smash Up Derby performs live rock and roll/pop/hiphop mashups. I think they were even on TV for some talent show..They are wonderful! XD Sometimes there's performances by the Cheesepuffs burleque dancers. Let's just say I've never had anyone i've taken to Bootie leave the dna lounge disappointed!
by Andrew S. on People, if you're going here and feel you've stumbled on a "chic, sophisiticated lounge," well...it's easy to see how you could have been duped into believing this. Frankly, this is just an east village bar that's trussed up a bit to try and compare with some of its more fabulous brethren in better parts of the city...and that motif of "almost, but not quite" continues throughout one's experience at Ella. The doorpeople can't really be blamed, since they are "doing their jobs" but, seriously, another roped off entrance inside this already pathetic club? Doubly pathetic. Forcing patrons to wait at this second entrance once you've already been blessed to go down there once, but merely needed to go to the bathroom and had to come back up? Outrageous. Avoid this pig of a club, unless you like to wear lots of lipstick.
by George Soose on All around great burger place with a martini twist. I've been here many times and have to say it's a great place to drink and meet new people. I highly recommend the common table in the middle of the place. Service was great and the atmosphere is cool and hip. SWEET POTATO FRIES....enough said.
