by Jason S. on Well outside of ALMOST running over a bum, ALMOST getting a ticket and getting rained on the last time I attended an event here - I'm down with the Mezzanine. I've been here a couple times and always get lost finding the place, but once inside - jacket off, sleeves rolled up and drink in hand - I've always had a swell time here.
by Brigitte Althouse on People describe SOMA as a hip neighborhood though, to the general observer, it's mostly clumps of nondescript buildings, parking lots, empty lots, highway ramps, and other not-so-necessarily sightly points of interest (or disinterest, depending on what you like). It's that don't-know-until-you-know quality that makes MIGHTY the oasis that it is. Mostly because, frankly, ain't shit else going on that block. OK. Once you step inside you notice a pretty simple layout (two rooms, two bars, large dancefloor and stage in main room) and massive speakers. On a night where there's a good DJ (or three, as on Valentine's Day 2009, on Hakobo's B-Day bash w/ Rich Medina and Spinna) you're in bass and decibel heaven. The bartender at the bar closest to the stage was very friendly and generous with the cognac (thanks!). Looking back, wish I tipped him more. Dress chic, have cash for the (non-credit card accepting) bar, and have fun. Oh, most importantly. Guard your stuff; it can get crowded and busy and things can walk away. Someone snatched my felt fedora and glasses as I shook it down with a cool gal on the dancefloor. I was literally 3 feet away from where I placed 'em too. [Oh, and if you stole my hat and glasses and you're reading this, I have lice. And leprosy. And a disease so rare (and terrible) it doesn't even make sense for me to write it out. And now you do too.] GO MIGHTY.
