This is one of my new favorite bars. It's a bit of a dump, and I love dumps that serve excellent sangria and remind me that it's summer. I ordered their "vegetable burger" and found it pretty delicious. I was especially taken with the large quantity of mayonaise available to pump into small cups. It was a great component of my burger and fry experience. My rateclubsing friend Jen O. got the garlic fries. I'd say they were pretty average french fries with garlic seasoning. For me, they hit the spot. Maybe it's the view, the open space, the riverfront location, or my love of dives. Whatever the reason, this is love.

On my vacation to Austin awhile back I managed to pull off one of the most epic bar crawls ever with a great group of friends. This spot was a must-visit on my list. Maybe it was just a bad day out of the week, but the DJ was playing music i remember drinking beers to in garages about the time "beer pong" was getting popular. 50 cent? Seriously? Maybe I'm spoiled, but I really expected Austin's BB would have an excellent Dj playing fresh & lively tunes. Meh, not from what I recall. Perhaps all the super fun electro/dance/indie i'm used to hearing in SD isn't considered poppin' in Austin (I think this is the case, 0/4 people I randomly asked were familiar with Chromeo *shudder*). The crowd was definitely interesting, wasted, and fun, but i'm not reviewing the bar based on thier clientele.. The austin Beauty Bar had a much bigger interior and outdoor smoking area than SD's..and the dancefloor was going off. Drinks were similar prices, and fairly strong. I felt bad for the bar staff, that place was slammed with a ravenous and wasted crowd by the time I got there around midnight. Hence, it was a little difficult to get a drink. No biggie, the staff looked like they were working hard to keep up. I would reccomend this place to anyone in the area that isn't allergic to hipsters and does their musical homework before visiting. If you like the band/artist/dj that's playing on the night you go, I'm sure it's alot more fun. -2 stars for DJ Suckalot(not his real name) playing house-party hip-hop way too loudly. I wish I could update this with a 4-star by going on a better night, but the drive is just a bit too far to justify =)
