This is the longest review I've posted, if you're just looking for the bottom line, here it is:  The food is delicious, but not enough to make up for the poor service. The service lacks the polish and elegance that should accompany the menu, decor and price. Not the best value for your dining dollar. If you want the details, read on. I have now eaten at Yoshi's twice. The first time was on 9/22/10 at 6:30 before a show that a friend and I had tickets for. The service was terrible, so much so that the manager came to the table and gave me his card, told me the kitchen was having an off night and asked me to give them another shot. These things happen, so I was more than willing to suspend judgement (and my Rateclub review). After tonight's dinner (10/23/10), I have decided to post my exchange with the manager after that initial night, read for yourself: "I just wanted to follow-up with you about the dinner that a friend and I had before the Latin Comedy show on 9/22. You should have a full account of our evening so that you can appropriately address the problems. We arrived early for our 6:00p.m. reservation and the host suggested that we have a drink in the bar, which we did. Service at the bar and our cocktails were excellent and we returned to the host station about 6:30 to have dinner. We were seated and left to decide from the menu. When our server returned, we started with another round of cocktails, the vegetable tempura, and spicy tuna rolls. As for our main courses, my friend ordered the pork and I ordered the lamb. At this point, the server informed me that Yoshi's was out of the lamb. And had been for a few days - why not take it off the menu or substitute another dish? The least a restaurant of Yoshi's caliber can do is inform diners before they set their mind on something. In the end, I ordered the short ribs, which were delicious but as you know took entirely too long to make it to the table. Our drinks and starters seemed to arrive at the table quickly enough, but after we finished the starters we waited probably 30 - 45 minutes for the main course to arrive. While we were waiting, the server came over and apologized and said that our food was taking a long time to cook. Which was frankly bizarre, I ordered spare ribs - of course they take a long time to cook, they're braised. He seemed to be making excuses for the kitchen, and I sympathize because I know he can't control what's happening back there. Our server very nicely apologized for how long it was taking for our main courses, but offered us dessert while we were still waiting for one of our main courses and had about twenty minutes before the start of our show. I appreciated the spirit of his offer, but it was totally inappropriate given that we barely had time to finish the main courses. The menu and decor at Yoshi's is elegant and refined, but the service definitely lacks the grace and finesse that would normally accompany such sophistication. Again, I commend the service at the bar. In particular, the Billie's Holiday drink that I ordered was really well-balanced and refreshing. Thank you for buying us a round of drinks, but honestly the best thing you did was to come to our table personally and apologize. A simple "We're having an off night," is better than vague excuses about how long the food is taking to cook. I'm going to take you up on your offer; I'm planning a birthday dinner for a friend . I'll make a reservation and shoot you a note to let you know when I'm coming. Until then, I'll suspend judgment and keep the experience to myself. I am sure that Yoshi's won't let me down." This was the manager's response: "Hello Joshua, I am sorry for the delay in my response.  As you could imagine, for me being the new guy, there is a lot to do. I thank you for your email, I have shared it with the management team and we certainly appreciate what you have written.  Also, we extend our apologies for your experience.  We have spoken to the server and used this as training.  I think the staff fully understand. Thank you again.  Let me know when you are planning to return so I can make sure we exceed your expectation." This evening's dinner was better than the last, but that's not saying much. Tonight, we arrived early for our 8:00 p.m. reservation, checked-in and were seated in the bar by the host. He promptly forgot that we were in the bar waiting for a table. You might be wondering, if you've bothered to read this far, how I knew he forgot. Well, it was the look of surprise and a brief flash of panic as he looked at his watch to see how long we had been waiting. To top it off, the manager, whom I told I was coming, never even bothered to stop by the table and see how things were. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is wonderful, but twice I've left disappointed because of the poor service.

I came here for a friends Birthday Party on a Saturday about a month and a half ago and I had a blast! They had VIP Service so we got seated right by the dance floor. I have actually been having dreams of coming back here because I just loved the music. I always love it when DJ's mash and mix songs together. The DJ was playing a lot of my favorite music and putting an electronic feel to it. I loved it and me and my friends all had a great time here. The club isn't that big but I like the Dance Floor area and it got busy early and stayed busy for pretty much the whole night! I also like the decor, their are lots of fancy chairs and couches which is always a big plus in my book. I love clubs with nice comfortable couches. For some reason I always end up lying down on them towards the end of the night! HAHA! The whole feel is very sophisticated with kinda a goth/dark feel to it. I really liked it. I like all the paintings on the walls as well and the way the tables are decorated. I will be trying to convince my friends to bring me back here, until then I will continue to dream about it.

After work I like to race here to meet up with friends and enjoy a pint in the sun after bathing in the cool fog of the Richmond district. Why is it, my Rateclubermaniacs, that the sun always shines here? Is it the laid back atmosphere? Is it the backyard that we all wish was our very own? Is it the sweaty back dance room? Is it the fly people who come here and make this the SPOT? Yes, yes, and hell to the yes. Great place to mix, mingle and make sweet sweet eye contact in the lingering sunlight. And WTF.. shuffleboard?Who plays this? WE ALL DO. It rules. More than you even know.
