by Magdalen Brickman on OK. for a place who calls themselves "Slide" and has a giant slide from the entrance to the dancefloor below..you'd think you'd have the time of your life here. Not so. I think I've had more fun @ a McDonald's playhouse. The slide itself is kinda lame and easily missed. It's got its own lil 'bouncer' who you have to ask for permission to go down it and you're only allowed down if you are fully clothed from the waist-down, so pretty much if you're a properly dressed female (like, in a DRESS) you can't even participate! LAME. The dance floor is kinda just a square space right in front of the bar and the music is whack..not many familiar tunes=not too danceable. Crowd? Old. Quite a few 40s and 50s! Ai ya. It's a mess. So much potential..but its just not happening.
by Kim L. on With my imminent move out of NYC, I decided this had to be knocked off the bucket list and proceeded to check this venue out despite the negative reviews. WE came for their Saturday night Circus event and let me tell you...this will go down as the greatest show on earth for the sheer mind-boggling fact that Webster Hall has managed to evade health code violations while charging anywhere between $10 and $30 a ticket for entry into a glorified sauna selling astronomically priced alcohol. No really...how is it that no one has called 311 to turn these perps in??? For a venue that has undergone $3M in renovations (in 2008!) and charges a STEEP price for admission and alcohol ($9 for a heineken?!?!?!? This is no rooftop bar or swanky lounge infested with investment bankers-wtf!!), it is inconceiveable that there is no AC! When it's 90 degrees out! Or if they purposefully did this, they should fire their engineers! What idiots construct a night club without proper ventilation?! On the flip side...I have to say that the acts we saw were prety cool. But seriously...could they not start at say midnight? Also....I'm glad I went in the summer and managed to avoid the coat check. I can only imagine how undignified parting with your money in all its various forms at this institutions must feel like. Woe is the poor 19 year old who has to come here because it's one of the few places in the city open to them. Webster Hall makes me insanely happy to be over 21 and free to choose among less sanity-depriving institutions.
by Lucila Triarsi on If Dracula ever did a collaboration with Victoria Secret I'm pretty sure it would look like the Bordello. Victorian furniture, black chandeliers, bar tenders in lingerie. Not to mention a stage that is beyond spectacular. Intricate detail that makes the performer feel like Nosferatu himself! I like this place not only for their decor and reasonable drink prices, but for the fact that they always have performances here! From L.A. locals, such as Autopop!, Very Be Careful and Love Grenades to themed burlesque nights. Tthink Video game or Barbie night burlesque. Covers can range from $5-10 depending on whose playing. Bordello is a great place to shake the stress away.
