by alina l. on the only, and i mean ONLY, thing geno's is good for is drunk mutant-watching at 3 am when it happens to be on your stumbling trajectory home. i make a point of it to never go here, both because i'm not interested in patronizing such an openly bigoted establishment and because their food is god-awful. i made an exception recently because i had a friend in town from san francisco, and she'd never had a cheesesteak. the whole notion of standing in a ridiculously long line for a totally overpriced, overhyped sandwich is beyond silly, but whatever... for better or worse, it's what our city seems to be best known for in some circles. since i live so close to geno's, she'd always point to it on our walks around the neighborhood (i mean, how can you miss those obnoxiously large neon signs?), and i promised i'd take her. i made good on my promise one friday night, and i couldn't mask my amusement when she walked back to our table with that greasy, soggy mess of a sandwich in her hands, yelling "this is IT?" it didn't fare much better, taste-wise.. unimpressed is an understatement for her reaction upon trying it. she ended up throwing most of it away. some reviewers before me have suggested better places to get a cheesesteak, and i pretty much agree with all of them. in fact, i'd venture to say that almost anywhere in this city is better than geno's.
by Russel Haczynski on Stay away! Tempe's horrible, abysmal attempt at imitating an upscale 'Scottsdale-esque' lounge. It's expensive, very cheap and the drinks are terrible! It always seems to attract the worse, most ghetto crowd as well. I have been twice and the second time there was a huge fight and they shut down the place early. I have also witnessed a fight outside the Lounge passing down Mill Ave. Music is bad, drinks are bad and the crowd is even worse.
