by Jen L. on I came here with a group of friends because we were curious to see how the Academy of Sciences looks post-renovation but weren't curious enough to pay regular admission price. Thursday nights for Nightlife, it's only $10 for admission, they serve drinks, and you don't have to deal with kids running around and leaving sugar trails while screaming at their dads to carry them so that they can see the albino alligator. Apparently a friend of mine was accosted by a toddler for some Cheetos when she came during the day. Savages, I say. I only found the aquarium portion worthwhile because I just have a thing for marine life, but there was a rather pushy woman at the Tide Pool area who practically forced me to pet some starfish, which made my hands smell like wet dog. I went to the bathroom to wash the smell off of my hands, but since you really don't get service down in the aquarium area, I couldn't call any of my friends. I headed for the overpriced bar, natch, where I knew I could find them. Like moths to a flame. Do get here early because there will be a long line.
by Francisco Vaisman on fabulous!!! looks and feels like a las vegas nightclub....what nightclubs should be. Dancing on tables, people doing acrobatics hanging from the ceiling, clean, total A list crowd but still not too cool to dance. I had a blast and the music was off the hook. I had a great time, not to mention that i had a great time till 4 am.
by Dustin Skuse on I spent several drunk and (very) hungry hours here for The Lovemakers' video shoot. I like Cafe Du Nord much better when it is empty because I can see what an intimate and cool venue it actually is, instead of it being uncomfortably crowded during shows. Coincidentally, I have been to Cafe du Nord for one of the many Lovemakers concerts. As simple as it may seem, I like how the women's restroom is painted pink and the men's bathroom is blue. I made out with my BF in the men's bathroom and have a video to prove it ;P
