It's awesome to have a wine bar option in the Castro as an alternative to places with only a choice of red versus white and no chance at an intimate conversation. Their menu is more extensive than just food plates so I'd say it almost qualifies as a restaurant. And as a restaurant, it's just ok. Croque-Madame: Standard. Ham, cheese, egg on bread. Satisfies your hunger. Tastier than American diner versions though doesn't compare to many French bistro attempts. Spicy Blush Kobe Beef Tartare: Spicy wasn't that spicy. Texture seemed machine processed rather than hand chopped. The typical capers, cornichon and onions were in the mix. I've had worse, but have also had better. Raviole de Royan: Probably the most standout item I've tried here. Super creamy comté sauce encasing midget-sized raviole. Way more sauce than pasta, which is ok by me since it made an awesome fondue-like dipping sauce. Escargots de Bourgogne en Persillade: Typical snails in garlic butter sauce. Tasty as always. I like that they put them in the ceremonial snail shell and give the special escargot tongs so there is always the risk of being like that ho in Pretty Woman.

I like going to Shiner Saloon for the bartenders. They are friendly and quick to serve. They stock Three Olives Bubblegum vodka (my new obsession!). The clientele can be questionable, the first time I came here was during the Texas Tech - UT game and it was total mess of WT. I kid you not a woman motor boated herself on my friend (a girl) and walked away like nothing happened. My advice on Shiner Saloon...go straight to the bar and go in large numbers for protection from motor boat girl!

I'll fully admit that I don't go out to clubs now that I'm a card carrying senior citizen, however, this is a very cool spot. Came here with a few friends on a Friday evening and the place was busy but not overly crowded. The space is really neat looking, very hip and lofty looking. Look at the pics on the club's website and you'll get an idea, but they have a tri-level setup with the bar being on the bottom floor, a lounge area on the second floor and the dance floor being at the very top. The DJ was also spinning some decent beats. Everyone working here , from security to bartenders, seemed really friendly and chill (well, I was with Halo royalty, Kit F) and the 3 drinks I sampled were definitely on point. I often struggle to take out-of-towner visiting friends out to clubs when they ask, but Halo will definitely be the destination of choice.
