by dustyn B. on BOUNCERS SHOULDN'T STRIKE WOMEN I love this place. Nice and artsy. Tall ceilings, usually good music, overall good vibe. So why only one star? It was New Year's Eve, and i know everyone's trying to have a good time, but whoever's in charge of the bouncers should probably select some that don't drink or who have better restraint during confrontation. For whatever reason as the bouncers were doing their closing sweep at 2 am, they chose to focus on my slow, drunk friends. Even as we were passing people that were still dancing in our way to the exits, the bouncers thought we were still moving too slow. One punched my friend in the lip, knocked him down. I helped him up and held him back. The bouncer pursued the confrontation. I tried to get between them, walking backwards while boxing out my friend out. I was threatened and sworn at by the bouncer that i wanted to get knocked out too. He pushed us and knocked us down. That happened a couple times AS WE WERE COOPERATING AND RETREATING TOWARD THE EXITS. Once we got outside, the same bouncer thought it was appropriate to still pursue the issue. He started talking more crap, and punched my friend again. Once the girls in our group heard about this, they charged the bouncers. Of course that's not sensible and they should have just left the situation. But they didn't. What happened next is inexcusable; i don't care how drunk anyone is or how tense the situation might be. The bouncer started pushing the girls down, even striking both of them on different occasions with his hand. That's not cool and there's no reason for that. I understand especially on NYE, clubs hire out different bouncers that may or may not usually work there. But! Please, please, please be careful next time to whom you give so much responsibility on such busy nights. I love coming to Mighty. My friends aren't prone to confrotation; i've known them for a couple years and this is the first time anything close to this has even began to develop. The bouncers made some horrible, inexcusable choices.
by Karen W. on Sunday's a Drag, at least for brunch at Harry Denton's Starlight room. There is a drag show, yes, but let me talk about the brunch, first. I'm sure we've all had buffet food from a chafing dish~ that's what you get to eat. Many of the dishes were empty, since it took a while to replenish them and some things just shouldn't be sittin' above a Sterno. Case in point: Eggs Benedict. My booth-mate commented, 'Oh, you're so good, you're not eating the English muffin' but I had to reply that I was unable to cut through it with my knife. It was that hard. The show was fun. The emcee was quite raunchy and changed her outfits between each act. The queens who did the musical performances were OK, but sometimes appeared to be mad at the world with all their thrashing about. Not cute. Go for the cocktails and the experience; I'd have to give just half a star for the food.
