It is not a place I would like to recommend for great food. It is a trendy pricey spot to hang out for a night out. However, I had a great time there with my boys for my bachelor party. Food is not bad, the giant cookie is magic.

The Frying Pan deserves 5 stars on pretty much any early evening or afternoon. It has stunning views of the Hudson, it's a perfect little date spot to sip cocktails and watch the sun set, and it's just plain fun to sit on a boat in the water on a beautiful day. And-- it's kind of an adult playground if you like climbing up and down ladders, over bridges and taking in some breathtaking views from up top. You may even be inclined to shout something like, "I'm the king of the world!!" and still feel good about yourself. The Frying Pan deserves -2 stars for Saturday night fever dance party. What holds the possibiltiy of a stunning sophisticated evening on the water is COMPLETELY ruined by the meatmarket atmosphere and mind-numbing house music they've decided to blare across the hudson. I came here for my birthday and was so disappointed-- almost embarrassed that my friends would think I'd choose such an awful place to have a celebration. Never again on a weekend night.

1984 - Even though it's free before 9:30, I'd recommend getting there around 11:30 when more people show up. As the night goes on, the place gets jam packed - no dress code. As others mentioned, it gets really hot on the dance floor and there isn't much seating to speak of. Dancing to old 80's tunes was alot of fun, and the brand drinks were decently priced. The crowd was really diverse in a strange kind of way ... bikers, Financial district types, skaters, the haight crowd, B&T, and various people in their 80's gear. Make sure to stop for a hotdog outside on your way home ... perfect after gettin your groove on.
