by Magdalen Yoneda on I want to give Shampoo 3.5 stars. I have only been on first friday. Its a gay gay gay party that happens the first friday of every month. The club is huge, hundreds of people come to this party and there are several different bars inside the club. Get there before 11 pm because it is totally free. Afterwards you gotta pay 10 bucks. Okay so I am reviewing it from the perspective of a queer woman. There are alot of people, some pretty young, some a little older. More men that women but the ratio is better than in most mixed places. Mostly people of color. Shampoo....is really a hit or a miss. I say go with people you know - something I rarely say because I love to party alone. The DJ will be cool and the music is good to dance with your friends to. Not on the sweltering dance floor though with the hordes of sweaty dudes, lol. There is a smoking area there, which is cool. This is near the latin dance area. The bathrroom is filthy, absolutely filthy. Get drunk, dance wildly with your people, maybe get a number if you can yell loud enough for someone to hear what you are saying above the din. Or you will have to rely on sign language...flirty eyes. That kinda thing.
by Mimi W. on What can I say about the Cafe? My old stomping grounds, I've had some of my life's most memorable events take place here. I birthed my baby in The Cafe. No I'm just kidding, but really, I did spend the millenium new year here and was kissed by some gay guy wearing glittery "2000" glasses with the middle two zeros framing his eyes. I've celebrated countless birthdays and halloweens here. Always a good time. I just hope they fixed the nasty bathrooms.
by Maryjo Sweatfield on A decent-to-mediocre aquarium whose only redeaming feature are the large and rare animals they have. Nothing unifies the disjointed and unrelated exhibits. The pedestrian flow isn't very good, and it is rather expensive. The long lines aren't worth what's inside. If you do go, go early. 2.5 stars.
