by Dewey Sergi on I HATE Hollywood clubs. But a good friend wanted to go fancy shmancy for her 26th Bday. So, I'm cheap and I hate paying to get into anywhere. I went to the Boulevard3 website and emailed a request for the guestlist. The guy who emailed me back said that he would put all the girls on a list where they could get in for free before 1030. We had no problem with the door guys who were nice and werent blocking the entry like it was the Garden of Eden or something. The club itself was humongo! Definitely a vegas superclub feel. There were free chocolates and strawberries, awesomely nice bartenders, and a choreography show. The dancefloor was large, and there were all sorts of people that were there to have a good time. If I ever had the itch to slap on a dress and heels, I'd go back to this place.
by Guillermo Staenglen on Apparently I didn't get sufficiently boozed here. As I was riding the antibiotic wave and trying to avoid the sauce, I got to see this place with less jaded eyes than usual. Granted, I'm a big fan of patios. I especially like patios that I can lounge on in November and not freeze my tushy off. That being said, as a non-smoker who is not a fan of smoke...I just wish there was a happy medium somewhere, and I suppose the patio is it. I'm a fan of shuffleboard and pool, although I didn't play either. What I am not a fan of is: a tremendous hike from BART in a neighborhood that I'm not entirely comfortable with. As everyone's favorite bodyguard, Chum, had already left, I made the dangerous trek to and from BART all by my lonesome. I was tired, and I really needed to get home. I am also not a fan of the bartenders here. They were neither good nor bad, but not as friendly as I would have expected with all the adorable puppies running around. All in all it's a decent space with good drink prices and selection, although I doubt I'll go back anytime soon.
by Anna G. on I'm tired of everyone picking on my beloved, yet admittedly somewhat crummy, gym. It's small. The classes are so-so. They never offer yoga at a time I want to go. There's no pool. The sauna doesn't work half the time. And yet! The location is convenient (right off Burnet and 183) and the price is right. I signed up long ago, so I'm grandfathered in at $14.05/month. Even at the current price of twenty-something/month (or thereabouts), depending on how many times you go, it ain't bad if you have simple needs. For the basics -- stairmasters, treadmills, weights and a couple of mats, an occasional class - this location is completely sufficient. It's been noted there are odd characters here (and I hope no one is talking about me), perhaps more than at most gyms. But I find that it only makes the people watching that much more entertaining. Also, I recommend wearing headphones, even if you're not actually listening to anything. I was tempted to switch gyms once, went to look at the 24 Hour Fitness on Braker and realized that it was three times as much, just as crowded and the equipment and facility, outside of the pool, were only in marginally better shape. I'll stick with my dinky little gym that I've been going to for eight years, thankyouverymuch. So quit beating it up, 'cause there are some pretty big, possibly crazy dudes that work out there that you don't want to piss off.
