The first time I ended up here, it was the last stop of a night I (mostly) don't remember. This time, it was only the second stop of the night, and I do remember most of it. There weren't too many people, but good lord it was stuffy and disgustingly hot. No cute guys either, bummer. I loved the interior decorations and the stairs, but lots of stairs and lots of alcohol unfortunately do not mix. (Really, who thought that would be a good idea?!)

Ok the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn look more classy than the original. it's all good. i enjoyed the new space. I met my friend at the bar in the back room and we enjoyed a classical concert directed by Bill Lee who happens to be Spike Lee's dad. the place has an even more intimate atmosphere. In the front room was a comedy show with Hannibal Buress. this place rocks. I heard he is also a writer for SNL. I agree with the other reviewers. the new space is nice but i miss the character of the old space. oh well. things change

It doesn't really matter what's playing in the next few weeks at the Great American Music Hall; you just Need To Go.  A lame band will magically sound decent, decent acts sound amazing, and amazing bands will change your life here. There seem to be plenty of reviews that detail the decor so I'll skip that for now.  The Great American has that certain something; that gestalt, that vibe that's hard to describe.  Perhaps I should make clear that I develop emotional connections to location; if something really incredible goes down in my life, I'll probably never forget when and where it was.  I've had perhaps more moments like that within the walls of the Great American than anywhere else.  Maybe that's just because I'm hopelessly in love with music, and the same could become true if Random Warehouse X started booking my favorite acts.  But I have to believe it's more than just the people onstage and the music they play.  The Great American molds an otherwise normal evening of music into an experience that I could spend ten Rateclub reviews never properly explaining.  So perhaps I should just leave it at that, and petition you to just spend a few dollars and hours in one of my very favorite places, so you can decide for yourself.  If you're anything like me, by the end of the night, you'll understand what I was trying to say. And in case you're wondering, yes -- if the Great American were a girl, I would probably marry it.
