Ah, Superclub. I'd heard a lot about it, but had never gone, until a couple weeks ago. I brought with me a guest from out of town, and was looking forward to showing her a little "slice" of San Francisco...Here's how it went down. We had 7pm reservations. We arrived about 7:05pm. We were warmly greeted, and they checked out coats and bags. We were then ushered to the bar, and immediately asked for a credit card*. Right. They swiped my card, and we were asked to take a seat until our table was ready. *already a little put-off. Swipe my card on the front-end? What? Is this place so bad they think we'll bail without paying? Very not cool. We had a seat, ordered some drinks, and caught up. Thank God I had good company, because it was about an hour in the bar (read: 1 hour after our reservation was made) before I got up to ask the hostess what was up. The dining room doors were closed tight, and nobody was being seated. The bar was filling up with a mix of "out of town business men", a bachelor party that consisted of plastered boys wearing sombreros and being seriously obnoxious, and San Francisco locals who brought friends and relatives...much like myself. I was told by the Hostess that they seat "groups" of people, and the next seating was at 8pm... Aha!  ok...right...you do shows! Get one group out and another one in...I get it...But seriously, would have been really good to fill me in when I made the reservations... Finally, the doors to the restaurant area opened, and we were seated. Our server kicked ass. LOVED HIM. He took very good care of us, and even relocated us so we'd have a better view of the show. The "show", as advertised by their web site, was to be a Sinterclaus theme...As Supperclub was originally an Amsterdam thing, this made sense. However, the "show" consisted of about 5 minutes of a guy doing very impressive trapeze dancing...That was it. Seriously... The food was...decent. Not great. Not memorable. Portions are old-skool California--a bite or two on a massive plate with an impressive drizzling of sauce. Plated well. I'll give them that. But if you're going to give me just a couple of bites, it had better blow my mind. This didn't. Fish was dry, salad was unfortunate, and everything in between was just "ho-hum". OK...In the end. Would I go back? No. Would I go back if someone else was paying? No. - I was irritated that a 7pm reservation meant we were not seated until after 8 (and didn't get out of there until after 11). - I was very disappointed with the food. - I felt the show was simply not delivered...almost a bait and switch. - I hated being felt "captive" - I'd like a little more than a few bites for a meal ("when do we get the entree? Oh...That little, overcooked bite of Cod was it?" ...grumble..." - EXPENSIVE. Well for me. Including tip, we were $140 a head (hmmm...roughly a dollar a calorie). I would soooo rather give that money to a chef who deserves it... Only redeeming features were: I loved the company I was with Our waiter was amazing The decor is almost really cool Supperclub is a really good idea Anyhow...2 stars. Would only be one except for our waiter.

Shine is always a fun time. Almost always great music (it depends on the party, as with any club, but it's far more often hit than miss), good crowd, super nice bartenders, and I love the photobooth. Plus, it's easy stumbling distance from where we live so we can just toddle on home afterward.

While I, admittedly, went on what turned out to be an "off" night - this place definitely has potential. The atmosphere/ambiance is pretty cool, bartenders are quick and efficient no matter how crowded it gets, and the DJ was responsive to the crowd. Unfortunately, I wasn't digging the music at the time - really, really poppy - but at least 90% of the rest of the crowd was, so I get it. Also, if I were approximately two or three more drinks deep, I probably would've been loving it as well. Being an awkward and clumsy white girl, I need copious amounts of booze to even consider shakin' it. I would love to return for future dance party throwdowns. Buy me a shot?
