by Adina Christmas on May I share a confession? I saw my first burlesque show at Bordello Saturday night, and I enjoyed every minute of the experience. The dancers are vibrant, funny, and engaging. The polite audience of connoisseurs takes spectatorship to the level of an art by offering quiet, focused attention to each routine. The people who work there, from the guys at the door, to the guys at the valet parking, to the women who take your $13-cover, and the gents and ladies who comprise the audience, are friendly, and down-to-earth with an artsy-urban-LA-style. For a place that advertises no dress code, I found the audience interpreted that look in various ways, from t-shirts and jeans for the guys, and one-shoulder blouses for the ladies. There were also some guys who were doing takes on the rock-a-billy and "Mad Men" looks with nice shirts and a "smartish" hat here and there. You will love the fact that the woodworking and the upholstery are intricately patterned and the lighting, while dim, casts an intimate glow. There are only a few places to sit, though. But the decor is attractive and authentic looking. It would be cool to come back for a dance night. It gets warm in there, so whatever you wear, be comfortable. I can't tell ya about the drinks or the food, as I didn't partake. I recommend this spot for a nice evening. Not only was this my first time at a burlesque show, it was my first time experiencing an LA nightclub. What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the semester. In closing, I wish that some hip-hop had been mixed in with the Euro-dance mix the live DJ was playing, and some classic jazz for ambiance, would have been perfect. But these are minor observations. I could not have enjoyed myself more.
by Alana Hryniewich on There are a lot of delicious taco joints in Atlanta. This is not one of them. We went with a decent size group and were split up. It was pretty busy on a weekend night and I was really hungry, so the bar was down. Not down enough. One of my friends was at a table that sat before us and he came over after his meal to warn us- it was every bit as terrible as he warned. Margaritas were delicious (I had an agave one, which I definitely recommend). Guac and cheese dip were OK. The service was friendly and good enough. But, who wants to valet to go to a restaurant with bad food when there are so many good spots in the area? Not me.
