I came here last night and had an okayyy time. +1 the people in the front door were great!! Most places I've been to, the front door people think they have some type of higher power because they hold the red velvet rope and a damn clipboard. The blonde was super nice and checked us in really fast. The bouncers were really nice too! Even the cashier was very cheerful :) There are alot of stupid people who show up at 10:30pm and think that they re gunna make the guest list deadline. Come on people! STOP BEING CHEAP ASIANS (I'm Asian so its okay for me to say it!..haha) ! guest list line ends at 11pm and the line is wrapping around the building!!! Guest list line is $10 and general admission is $20. People need to stop being cheap and pay the extra $10 instead of waiting in the cold for an extra hour, where they re gunna end up paying general admission price anyways! +1 very nice venue. Its really dark inside. +1 the VIP area is really nice too. I didn't do VIP, but if i did return it is a MUST to get bottle service. They have a separate area, and security to stop people from entering. ******+1 the DJs that were playing on 9/11 were great in both rooms! I would love to get a copy of their mixes. If anyone knows who they are and has their link, please message me ******* +1 we parked in the Ellis and Powell parking garage. Super convenient for the ladies who are wearing 4 inch heels and danced all night. The entrance closest to the club is closed on Ellis, so you have to walk around the building to find the open entrance. we paid $10 for parking. They close at 2am, so be back before then! -2 (Yes...minus 2 because it was RIDICULOUS!) they PACK THIS PLACE UP!!! There has be some type of fire hazard or capacity maximum. People were straight up BACK TO BACK. I mean like rubbing asses and drinks being spilled on you. At first I tried to be polite and snake in between people, but then people end up pushing you... and then i must result to becoming a human plowing machine. I know they get money from the cover charges, but it makes it really uncomfortable for the people already in there. Some facts: -The bathroom is co-ed which doesn't bother me. They also have cool hand dryers. -The crowd is like 90% Asian when i came here on Saturday night. which means that anyone over 5'8 is a giant. I'm 5'6 and in heels 5'10 so i felt like an amazonian woman. I would come back again, but definitely get bottle service to avoid PLOWING through the crowd.

The Mayan is a great dance venue for those who just want to shake their booty all night long with three dance floors spinning various music from hip hop, 80's, Spanish dance, salsa, merengue, cumbia, and reggaeton on Fridays.  It's opened until 3 am and cover is $10 before 10:30 pm and $15 after, but Saturday's pricing is different since it's Salsa Night.  You can find nearby parking for as low as $4 up to $10 depending on proximity to the club, but there's also street parking if you don't mind the hike. I always have fun with my girls partying here, but don't expect to find too many dreamy looking men where you can dance with or feast your eyes on.  Yet, the men certainly have a better selection!  The main floor is the biggest with plenty of people dancing everywhere, and it was surprisingly packed when several months ago, the population was significantly less.   Either way, you can't help but get down even when your feet hurt so badly you feel like hanging them up.  The second floor is where the main restrooms are located at with a bar and a dance area spinning more Latin music.  This is also where you will likely be partnered up if you are dancing with your girlfriends.  They tend to be a little aggressive and I was almost lured away from my girlfriends by a Latin lover, who even pulled up his shirt for a preview! I met a Vietnamese guy the last time I was here, and the poor fellow didn't realize that the Mayan was predominately Latinos with 95% representation.  He was from out of town visiting and I informed him, "Wasn't it obvious in the name of the venue?"  Too bad he didn't do his research beforehand because rateclubs would've been a great resource!

MJQ is a great spot for dancing on Wednesday nights. There is enough space on the dance floor that you can really let loose if you so choose (which I hope you do!). Plus, with two rooms for dancing, you can always just migrate to the other room if you get bored with the scene. There is an eclectic mix of both music and people and that keeps things interesting for participant-observation purposes. Also, because I hate pretense, the decor at MJQ is just right. The concrete floors seem to say, "have a drink and get your groove on or go home," and for the most part people listen. And that is good. I have three complaints about MJQ: They don't take credit cards, the dancing starts too late, and it is more of a meat market than you'd expect at first blush. None of these things are criminal offenses, however. Just bring a wad of cash and around 11:30 PM saunter your ass straight to the dance floor, ignoring the lame pickup artists lining the wall.
