Okay, let's face it, we all like to go out and have a great time. When we hit those bars and clubs, who's our best friend; the bartender. Bartending can certainly have its perks. Everyone wants their attention because they want to be served next, or they want someone to chat with, or they simply want more liquor in their drink. Bartending can be a rewarding and socially satisfying career.

If you've ever tried bartending, which I have, then you know its pluses. Bartenders typically make good money, especially if in the right location. Restaurants, hotels, bars, and clubs all need good bartenders. That calm yet jovial character, anxious to pour some drinks. Being a bartender puts you face to face with all sorts of people. This can be an advantage. You can make new friends and connections to improve your life.

When I began bartending, or I should say, when I decided to be a bartender, I thought to myself, how can I get the upper-hand to find a good job. We all know that there are millions of others out there who need jobs too, and who are willing to fight for the right position. The first think I did was ask some friends. Luckily one of my buds had bartended before. He immediately told me to go to bartending school. Now my first reaction was an unenthusiastic scowl. School? No thanks. However, when I looked into my local bartending school, which was close by, I saw that the tuition was very low, nothing like a semester at college or anything, and the class time was brief. I could be done within a weeks time. At that point I decided to give it a go. My instructor was fantastic and I learned to make over 100 drinks in five days. Not to mention a variety of other things concerning wines, prices, and legalities. Bartending school was a blast. Now for the best part. When I finished my course and received an official bartending certificate, my instructor got me a job at a five star hotel. It was that easy.

While bartending can be a blast and a good money maker, you should always be wary of who you're serving and how much they've had to drink. Believe it or not, you can be held liable for other people's actions. As a bartender, you always have the right to cut someone off or refuse them an alcoholic beverage. Furthermore, you always check ID if you're unsure. These were my laws to live by as a bartender. Again, bartending can be a great job or career, you simply have to prepare yourself and take necessary precautions.
